Rudolf von Alt (Austrian painter) 1812 - 1905
Born in Vienna, he was the son of the lithographer Jakob Alt (1789-1871) and the brother of the painter Franz Alt (1821-1914). He studied at the Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna.
Hikes through the Austrian Alps and northern Italy awakened his love of landscapes and he painted in watercolor in a very realistic and detailed style.
In 1833, inspired by a visit to Venice and neighboring towns, he also produced a number of architectural paintings. He visited and worked for a long time in Rome and Naples; he then visited the lakes of Lombardy, then of Galicia, Bohemia, Dalmatia, Bavaria and returned several times to Italy.
In 1863 he traveled to the Crimea to paint views of an estate of the Empress, and in 1867 he traveled to Sicily. Alt died in Vienna in 1905.
Franz Alt (Austrian painter) 1824 - 1914 He was trained by his father Jakob Alt (1789 - 1872).
